A Tale of Two Cities, book by Charles Dickens, published in 1859. The story is set in the late 18th century against the background of the French Revolution. The book is perhaps best known as “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times''.

THE CHARACTERS ARE: 

The kind of story is historical fiction. The complex plot involves Sydney Carton’s sacrifice of his own life on behalf of his friends Charles Darnay and Lucie Manette.


Main Points

-Mr. Jarvis Lorry travelled to Dover to meet Lucie Manette. They will travel to Paris to meet her father, who has been released from the Bastille. Doctor Manette was in the Defarges' wine-shop. 

-Five years later, Charles Darnay is tried in London for says English secrets to the French and Americans during of the American Revolution. Carton was looked like Charles, and prevented any identification. She got married Charles Darnay. 

-In France, Darnay's uncle, Monseigneur, has been murdered in his bed for crimes against the French people. Darnay was next in line to inherit the aristocratic title. 

-Darnay returned to Paris. He is arrested as a nobleman and thrown into jail.

-In Paris the Doctor was successful in using his power among the revolutionaries as a former Bastille prisoner.

-Darnay was denounced by the Defarges, for  the revelation of a document that found in Doctor Manette's former cell in the Bastille. The document recounted that Manette was imprisoned by the Evrémondes for having witnessed their rape of a girl and the murder of her brother. 

-Darnay is brought to prison and sentenced to death.

-Carton traveled to Paris because of the love Lucie.  He resolved to sacrifice himself to save her husband's life.

-Darnay returned with the Manettes to London in safety.

-Carton died in Darnay's place at the guillotine.

I think, it´s a very interesting and exciting story. It´s based on the acts of the past, on the oppression of the populace. Also the characters played an important paper because they related very well into plot.

I really enjoyed this book. I definitely recommend it!
